
OXFORD– A victim injured in a Wednesday evening shooting at the Oxford Exchange died early Friday morning, according to the Oxford Police Department.
Police identified the victim as Levi Cotton.
Officers responded to the shooting at approximately 7:40 p.m. on July 15. They found Cotton suffering from a gunshot wound.
Oxford Health Systems personnel immediately provided medical aid. Emergency crews then transported Cotton to a local hospital for treatment.
Police Say Shooting Appears Accidental
Oxford Police said evidence gathered so far indicates the shooting appears to have been accidental and self-inflicted.
The department said there is no known threat to the public.
Cotton’s Organ Donation Will Help Others
Police said Cotton was an organ donor. His decision will provide the gift of life to others following his death.
The Oxford Police Department extended condolences to Cotton’s family and loved ones. The department also asked the community to keep his family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.
