ROME – The Rome-Floyd Fire Department is honoring Firefighter Todd Lanier following his retirement after 37 years of service to the citizens of Rome and Floyd County.

Lanier spent nearly four decades as part of a department responsible for fire suppression, rescue operations, emergency response, and other life-safety services throughout the community. Rome-Floyd Fire operates from 10 strategically located fire stations serving the city and county. (Rome, GA)

Nearly Four Decades of Service

Lanier’s longevity with the department had been recognized before his retirement. City of Rome service records previously listed Lanier among Fire Department employees who had reached 35 years of service, documenting a career that continued for another two years before his retirement. (Rome, GA)

The Rome-Floyd Fire Department said Lanier has been a dedicated servant to both the department and the people of Rome and Floyd County throughout his career.

“For nearly four decades, Todd has been a dedicated servant to our department and the citizens of Rome and Floyd County,” the department said in announcing his retirement.

Service to a Busy Fire Department

Lanier retires from a department that responds to thousands of calls each year. Floyd County E-911 records show Rome Fire Department units were dispatched to 7,244 calls for service in 2025, following 7,195 calls in 2024 and 7,216 in 2023. (Floyd County)

The department’s responsibilities extend beyond structural fires and include rescue and special operations response, along with fire prevention, training, and life-safety services. Its stated mission is to protect the lives, property, and environment of residents throughout Rome and Floyd County. (Rome, GA)

As Lanier begins retirement, the department expressed its gratitude for his years of sacrifice, dedication, and commitment.

“Thank you, Todd, for 37 years of faithful service, dedication, and commitment,” the department said.

Rome-Floyd Fire officials also wished Lanier and his family many years of health, happiness, and well-earned adventures as he begins the next chapter of his life.
