At the September 22nd meeting, the Centre City Council approved a new pay scale for city employees. Mayor Jay Howell stated that Auburn University had done a pay-scale study for the city back in 2022, but the recommendations were never implemented. Howell added that an updated pay scale “should have been done long ago.” Councilman Phillip Roberts reported that details would be released Wednesday when City Clerk Aubrey Elder had time to type them out.
In other action the council purchased two $742 CPR-teaching kits, approved the $6,975 purchase of 5 full-page ads in upcoming Weiss Living Magazine, and renewed their contract with Neumo Tax and Licensing Software.
The city also made a $2,000 donation to northeast Alabama MR/DD Authority and tabled an agenda item that would up the investment in the Centre Piedmont/Cherokee County Regional Airport from $10,000 to $20,000.
The city announced that October 19-23 will be the dates of the annual fall cleanup, that the Fall Festival is October 3rd, and that the sign in front of city hall is up and working. Mayor Howell stated that a brick encasement that will go around the sign and it will be constructed soon.
Estes Field will host a youth block party Wednesday night, the 23rd with an estimated 200 people to attend, and representatives from Main Street Alabama will be in Centre October 8th at 10:00 am.
