JACKSONVILLE – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers fell short 48-40 at Jacksonville Christian Monday in the Class 1A, Area 12 girls basketball championship game.

Maya Jennings led the Lady Panthers with 11 points. Addie Word added 10 points. Kylie Bates contributed eight points and eight rebounds. Lacie Jo McMurray connected on a pair of 3-pointers and had six points. Carmen Truss finished with five points.

Modasti Carr topped the Thunder with 18 points. Aday Lee tossed in 15 points. Mollie Mullinax and Sophie Williams both finished with six points. Williams sank a pair of treys.

Jacksonville Christian held a 12-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter and built a 22-10 edge at halftime. The Thunder led 34-26 at the end of three quarters.

Both teams advance to sub-regional play on Friday at 6 p.m. Spring Garden travels to Class 1A, Region 8 winner Winterboro. Jacksonville Christian will host Region 8 runner-up Woodland.
