GADSDEN– Donors can now adopt a child through the Gadsden Angel Tree campaign, with adoptions open through Dec. 10. The Salvation Army of Gadsden expects to help at least 350 children this Christmas as more families seek assistance.
That would surpass the nearly 300 children the program helped last year. Those families received gifts and clothing, as well as the items needed for Christmas breakfast and dinner.
“We are seeing an increase in the demand for assistance this year,” said Lt. Daniel Jones, the organization’s corps officer. “It’s clear that many in Gadsden are still in need.”
The program helps families facing difficult choices between household expenses and Christmas gifts for their children. Jones also encouraged residents to consider adopting an angel so that no child in need gets left out.
First, donors can select an angel through the online adoption portal or visit The Salvation Army in person. The local adoption location is 114 N. 11th St. in Gadsden, according to the organization’s release.
Each participating child has a wish list that guides donors as they purchase new clothing and toys. Shoppers can also buy gifts through the campaign’s Walmart registry.
Afterward, donors return their angel’s wish list tag and new gifts to The Salvation Army. Staff and volunteers then group the gifts by family for distribution to parents and caregivers the weekend before Christmas.

In addition to its Christmas campaign, the organization offers year-round support through its Army of Hope monthly giving program. Recurring donations help sustain its programs and services throughout the year.
