WHITE PLAINS-Residents in the White Plains community may see a large flame from a controlled natural gas release later this week, according to the White Plains Volunteer Fire Department.

Kinder Morgan and Southern Natural Gas have tentatively scheduled the work for July 15 and 16. Operations could also continue into July 17.

The schedule remains tentative and will depend on weather conditions.

The work will take place near the corner of Cottaquilla Road and Alabama Highway 9. The controlled release is part of necessary pipeline operations.

Natural gas released during the work will be burned through a process known as flaring. The flame could be readily visible to residents and motorists in the surrounding area.

Flaring will only occur during daylight hours. It could take place intermittently depending on pipeline performance.

Kinder Morgan plans to keep crews at the site throughout the operation. Those crews will continuously monitor the flaring and surrounding conditions.

Officials emphasized that the visible flame will be part of a controlled release. Safety will remain the top priority throughout the pipeline operation.

The White Plains Volunteer Fire Department is sharing the notice, so residents understand why the flame may be visible. The department and company thanked the community for its patience and cooperation.
