Anniston Transparency Portal Opens City Data to Residents

ANNISTON– The City of Anniston has launched the Anniston Transparency Portal to give residents easier access to municipal finances, services, projects, and community programs.

The online collection brings information from several city departments and organizations into one location. In addition, residents can use the dashboards on desktop computers or mobile devices.

City officials said the project offers a clearer view of how Anniston operates. It also shows how the city uses taxpayer dollars, public resources, and program funding.

Anniston Transparency Portal Covers Finances and Projects

The financial section includes information about the adopted city budget, revenue, and expenditures. For example, users can review department spending, individual budget line items, capital investments, and source documents.

A separate capital projects dashboard organizes major city projects by budget, reported spending, remaining balance, funding category, and status. As a result, residents can move from a broad overview to detailed project information.

The City Clerk’s Office dashboard covers public-records activity, claims administration, public bidding, and the Police and Fire Pension Fund. Meanwhile, other sections focus on economic trends and city service activity.

Public Safety and Inspection Data Available

The portal also includes Anniston Police Department statistics and historical trends. Users can explore annual reports, calls for service, crime categories, response zones, and other public-safety information.

In addition, the site includes Anniston Fire Department statistics and reports. The city’s release lists both police and fire information among the portal’s public-safety resources.

Building and Safety information focuses on online inspection activity recorded through the city’s reporting systems. The dashboard organizes records by result, month, record type, and inspection category.

However, the public-facing display does not include names, addresses, project numbers, or other identifying details. Privacy safeguards also apply to other dashboards where personal information is excluded.

Community Programs and Economic Trends

The Community Development dashboard covers the city’s Community Development Block Grant and HOME programs. It presents information about planned federal resources, project areas, community goals, funding allocations, and expected outcomes.

Those programs can support housing, public services, infrastructure, neighborhood improvements, and administration. Additionally, a city economic tracker presents information about permits, construction activity, revenue, and business licenses.

Separate dashboards cover Main Street Anniston and Anniston Museums and Gardens. The Main Street section highlights downtown business activity, property improvements, awards, events, and volunteer participation.

Similarly, the museums and gardens section covers visitor reach, educational programs, cultural resources, gardens, collections, and community impact.

Online Work Orders and Code Reports

Another section combines online work-order requests with online nuisance and code-violation reports. However, the city notes that the dashboard reflects only submissions made through its online portals.

Requests made by telephone, email, in person, or through other channels may not appear. Moreover, the public display excludes personal contact information, exact addresses, uploaded images, and unedited descriptions.

Users can search available information by department, category, year, and other filters. Finally, the city plans to update the dashboards as new reports, financial records, project updates, and service data become available.
