Asbury sweeps Collinsville in Tuesday basketball action

ALBERTVILLE – The Asbury Rams swept a pair of basketball games from visiting Collinsville on Tuesday evening.

Asbury’s boys claimed a 49-42 victory, while the Lady Rams sank 10 3-pointers to earn a 53-18 win.

In the boys game, Jake Middlebrooks scored a game-high 17 points for Collinsville. Dawson Cothran came away with 13 points.

Jayven McCoy led the Rams with 13 points. Caleb Gentry tossed in 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Landon Bethune netted nine points. He also had a pair of treys. Haden Morton and Isaiah Black both finished with six points.

Collinsville held a 22-13 edge at the end of the first quarter and led 27-22 at halftime, but the Rams charged out in front by the end of the third quarter at 40-34 and held on down the stretch.

In girls action, Cheyla Pacheco posted 17 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Lady Rams. Yessell Hragon scored 12 points, all on 3-pointers. Daisy Zurita netted nine points, including a pair of treys. Katlyn Pilkington and Vanessa Cruz finished with eight and seven points respectively.

Carlee Davis led Collinsville with six points. Karly Middlebrooks finished with four points.

Asbury jumped out to an 18-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter and led 27-12 at halftime. The Lady Rams extended their lead to 46-16 after three quarters.

Collinsville travels to Gaston on Friday.
