SYLVANIA – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors opened their 2023-24 basketball season Tuesday night with a 57-47 win at Sylvania.
Mary Hayes Johnson led the Lady Warriors (1-0) with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Nevaeh Gaidurgis netted 12 points. Ellisan Givens added 11 points. Deannia Starr and Macy Lea finished with eight and six points respectively.
Molly Weaver topped the Lady Rams with 15 points – all coming on 3-pointers. Avery Jenkins added 13 points, including a pair of treys. Alli Murdock and Stormie Little both finished with seven points. Murdock also had a pair of three pointers.
Cherokee County held a 16-10 first-quarter lead and led 33-18 at halftime. The Lady Warriors took a 38-28 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Cherokee County plays in the Geraldine Thanksgiving Tournament beginning on Monday.
