North Sand Mountain pulls away late from Cedar Bluff

CEDAR BLUFF – Jorge Luna accumulated 121 yards on 18 carries and scored a touchdown, and Derek Bearden ran for 45 yards on nine totes with two touchdowns to lead Class 2A North Sand Mountain to a 22-6 victory at Cedar Bluff in high school football action on Friday.

Jacob Burleson completed 8-of-14 pass attempts for 122 yards and a touchdown to Bucky Leek. He also ran for 29 yards on nine carries for Cedar Bluff (2-3).

Bearden put the Bison (2-3) in front in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run. Mason Smith added the 2-point conversion run for an 8-0 lead.

The Tigers countered on a 7-yard Burleson-to-Leek touchdown pass, but the extra point was no good, keeping the score at 8-6 Bison.

It remained a two-point game until the fourth quarter when Bearden scored again on a 6-yard run. Luna ran in for two to provide the Bison a 16-6 advantage. Luna put the game away with his 1-yard run later in the fourth for the final.

Cedar Bluff jumps back into Class 1A, Region 7 action by hosting Woodville on Friday.  North Sand Mountain is at Pisgah.
