Gadsden Awarded $822,634 for Splash Pad at Joseph T. Robinson Park

GADSDEN– The City of Gadsden has received $822,634 for a splash pad and improvements at Joseph T. Robinson Park.

The planned project also includes two pavilions, restrooms, a parking area, and accessible sidewalks. In addition, the city plans lighting, security cameras, and an emergency call station.

The park is at Joseph T. Robinson Street and Tuscaloosa Avenue, near Valley Street. However, the city did not announce a construction schedule or opening date in its Sept. 28 release.

Funding comes through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund. The fund also supports outdoor recreation projects.

Mayor Craig Ford said the city has worked on the project for more than two years. He also recalled Robinson’s legacy as a coach and educator. Ford said the improvements will give families another place to make memories.
