One Vehicle Accident on Bypass in Centre Injures 2

Centre- A One vehicle accident injured two men on Wednesday morning. The mean were ejected from a pick up truck in front of OK Tire on the Bypass in Centre. It appears the men entered the ditch in front of the shopping center that contains Little Ceasers and other businesses when traveling south in the direction of 411. Tire marks were visible in the ditch leading up to the culvert where you enter and exit the south side of that parking area. According to witnesses, the pickup truck hit the culvert and went airborne and flipped at least once end over end.

Witnesses described the noise as extremely loud. They said at first they thought something may have exploded or dropped in the tire shop or near by. One witness said she looked up as she heard the first loud bang to see the truck in the air.

A nurse and a physician who were bystanders attended to the individuals. A crowd was gathered in the parking area, most who heard the accident and came running out. Several people praised the fast response of first responders and expressed gratitude for the local departments who arrived quickly.

Centre Police, Centre Fire, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, and Atrium Health Floyd EMS were on scene.

Traffic continued to flow under the direction of officers, and the roads are open at this time.

The two men were transported to hospitals for treatment. Names and photos will not be released at this time. We will update if more information becomes available.
