Wind Advisory in Effect Until 7 P.M. for Cherokee, Etowah, and Nearby Counties

CENTRE– A wind advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. CDT Saturday, October 10, for Cherokee, Etowah, Calhoun, Blount, and Cleburne counties. The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued the advisory at 11:43 a.m.

The forecast calls for winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. Although winds have decreased slightly, the weather service says they remain strong across northeast portions of its coverage area.

Because gusts can move unsecured objects, residents should secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and other loose items. In addition, trees could fall, and a few power outages may occur.

Drivers should also use extra caution, especially when operating high-profile vehicles such as trucks, vans, or recreational vehicles. Meanwhile, avoid stopping or standing near trees that could lose limbs or fall.

If you encounter a downed power line, stay away and call 911. Also, keep children and pets away from the line and anything it touches.

Residents should continue monitoring weather updates through the evening. The advisory runs until 7 p.m.
