A Message From Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers

Cherokee County EMA Thanks Residents for Staying Weather-Ready and Prepared
The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) sincerely thanks our residents for staying vigilant and prepared during yesterday’s severe weather threat. Your attentiveness to weather alerts and proactive preparations helped ensure the safety of our community. In preparation for the storm, EMA staff programmed and distributed over 300 weather radios on Friday to help keep residents informed.
Fortunately, Cherokee County was spared from any significant damage, and no injuries or fatalities have been reported. While we experienced strong winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning, no tornadoes touched down in our area.
“I want to personally thank the citizens of Cherokee County for taking the severe weather warnings seriously and making the necessary preparations to stay safe,” said Shawn Rogers, Director of Emergency Management. “Your actions demonstrate the strength and resilience of our community. Because of this collective effort, we were able to minimize risks and protect lives.”
While our county was fortunate, many communities across Alabama were not. We extend our deepest condolences to those who suffered loss or damage during this severe weather event. Our hearts are with the families and communities affected, and we stand ready to assist in any way possible.
As we move through the spring severe weather season, we urge everyone to remain weather-aware. Now is the time to review emergency plans, restock disaster supplies, and stay informed.
