National Crappie League Drops Anchor On Weiss Lake

Crappie fishing was very good on Weiss Lake Saturday with 21 fishing teams participating in the Spring Crappie Tournament on Weiss Lake. Those teams consisted of friends and family members who travel the Crappie fishing tournament trail. According to Paul Alper, Director of the NCL, those participated were from 8 states with 90 percent of anglers being from states other than Alabama.

At the end of the day the results were Doug and Renee Allen weighing in the heaviest stringer of 5 fish for a total of 9.74 pounds with a big fish of 2.42 pounds. They received a check in the amount of $3950 for their performance. This total amount included a $200 Bonus for leading male/female team and $350 Bonus for the Big Fish of the tournament.

Tony Thomas placed 2nd with a stringer of 9.67 pounds for a total payout of $1950 and the team of Charles Bowman and Morgan Neal placed 3rd with a total weight of 9.65 pounds with a payout of $1000.

The total payout for the day was $10,000 with the top 10 places receiving a check.

Alper told WEIS Radio News the Tournament was a great success and encouraged more local teams to participate in the March 2025 NCL Tournament on Weiss Lake.
