Two Pedestrians Injured After Being Hit By A Truck On Highway 431

The Anniston Star reports three people were injured when a truck ran off Hwy 431 near the Etowah County line Thursday afternoon.

State Troopers say the truck had a blowout and went off the road hitting two pedestrians. Both pedestrians, who are undergraduate Auburn University students, were airlifted to UAB Hospital.

An 8-year-old in the truck was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Auburn University released the following statement on the crash:

“Yesterday afternoon a group of undergraduate geoscience students were on a geology field trip in the Gadsden area when two of them were hit by a car. My understanding is that they were collecting rock samples or studying rock formations and were well away from the road when a vehicle lost control and ran into them. Two of the students were transported to hospitals. I don’t have updates this morning on their injuries.”

No word on the condition of the driver at this time.
