A second arrest has been made in the death of a 2-year old child.

38-year-old Hassan Rashad was arrested April 13 for cruelty to children.

He was charged with murder two days later after the child died.

Now, according to a news release from Floyd County Police, 28-year-old Sydney Dean, who is the child’s mother, has been arrested for Cruelty to children in the 2nd degree and Murder in the 2nd degree.

The charges were made when it was discovered that Dean had knowledge that her 2-year-old child was injured and in need of medical care but neglected to seek medical attention for several hours and further waited until the child was unresponsive to seek medical attention.

The investigation is ongoing.
