TUSCALOOSA– An Oxford man died following a shooting Saturday night at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex. Meanwhile, another Oxford man faces felony murder and three additional charges.

Authorities identified the man who died as Kurtae’vious Earl Tyson. According to Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Lt. Michael Hall, investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an attempted robbery.

Patch reported Hall’s account Sunday, Oct. 11. Hall also said investigators determined that Tyson and the other Oxford man allegedly tried to rob a 25-year-old Tuscaloosa resident.

During the encounter, gunfire left Tyson critically injured. He later died from his injuries.

Shooting Occurred at Magnolia Apartments

Tuscaloosa police received a report around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, that someone was transporting a shooting victim to DCH Regional Medical Center.

Initially, that report placed the injured man in the 1000 block of Investigator Dornell Cousette Street. However, investigators later located the shooting scene in the parking lot of Magnolia Apartments, 5621 Highway 69 South.

After processing the scene, investigators interviewed multiple witnesses and people involved in the incident, Hall said.

Charges Follow Investigation

Following the investigation, authorities charged the surviving Oxford man with felony murder, first-degree robbery, attempted murder, and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

In addition, Hall said authorities were holding the man without bond at the Tuscaloosa County Jail under Aniah’s Law.

However, the published police account does not identify who fired the fatal shot.

The charges are accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
