Chatman Presented Life-Saving Award

At the July 13th Cedar Bluff Town Council Meeting, Police Chief Jeremy Stepps presented Sergeant Jamie Chatman with a Life Saving Award.

The recognition stemmed from an incident where Chatman responded to a call where a female victim suffered from a life threatening gunshot wound. The sergeant immediately assessed the severity of the injuries and, working alongside Centre Police Officer Brandon Thompson, rapidly applied two tourniquets to control the victim’s bleeding.

Through their calm demeanor, exceptional training, and swift medical intervention, Chatman and Thompson successfully stabilized the victim until emergency personnel arrived. Their actions directly contributed to preserving the woman’s life.

Chief Stepps also delivered his monthly status report to the council. In June 2026 the Cedar Bluff Police Department issued 105 warnings and wrote 92 tickets. The department made 16 felony, 20 misdemeanor, and 26 Target Enforcement (ICE) arrests. Stepps also reported 37 warrants served and 6 drug cases.
