Police Department and Trash Service Hike Highlight Collinsville Council Meeting

At the June 15th Collinsville City Council meeting Police Chief Ray Morales introduced the department’s new hire, Hunter Chadwick. Chadwick has already assisted in an arrest that kept marijuana and stolen guns off Collinsville’s streets. The officer complimented the department and chief, and he thanked the council for the opportunity to serve. The mayor and council praised Chadwick and Officer Carson Hix, who was also in attendance.

City Clerk Jill Tidmore reviewed an increase in trash collection fees, $1 per residential can and $10 for both small and large dumpsters. The council approved those changes.

In other business Mayor Jeff Chandler reminded the council of the upcoming Juneteenth celebration Saturday, June 20th at Gregory Park from 2:00 – 8:00 pm. Chandler also noted that primary runoffs were Tuesday, June 16th and that the work on the baseball park was coming along well with the installation of lights coming soon.

The council appointed Ellen Boatwright to the Dekalb County Mental Retardation Board, Thomas Barksdale to the Housing Authority, and Hershel Burt to the Industrial Development Board, the Redevelopment Authority, and the Zoning Board. The members also approved Jaqueline Shavey to replace Phyllis Jones on the Library Board.

The council heard updates on the fire department grant. Once the paperwork is completed on the current grant, the department is eligible to apply for another grant.

Mayor Chandler stated that while the council had previously preferred leasing new police vehicles, the decision was made to replace one at a time instead.

The next Collinsville City Council Meeting is scheduled for July 6th at 5 pm in the Council Chambers.
