Suspect Shot, Taken Into Custody After Firing at Albertville Officers During Two-Hour Standoff

Albertville-Albertville police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that followed a reported domestic assault and two-hour standoff Tuesday night.
According to a media release from the Albertville Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to the 100 block of Bobwhite Drive after receiving a report of a fight. When officers arrived, they located an adult male who had allegedly been assaulted by a family member and moved him to safety.
Police say that as officers approached the suspect’s residence, the suspect opened fire on them. Officers returned fire, and the suspect retreated back inside the home. Additional law enforcement units responded, established a perimeter, and attempted to negotiate with the suspect to exit the residence peacefully.
After an approximately two-hour standoff, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. Authorities said the suspect was transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound and is listed in serious condition but is expected to survive.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Albertville police credited the Marshall County Joint Special Response Team, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Guntersville, Boaz and Douglas police departments, the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, Albertville Fire & Rescue and Marshall Health Systems for assisting during the response.
In accordance with department policy, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation has been asked to conduct an independent investigation. Officials say the investigation remains ongoing and additional information will be released by ALEA as it becomes available.
