Gas Prices Continue To Climb Amidst Conflict In Ukraine

Gas prices across the country – and yes, here in Alabama, continue to rise as Vladimir Putin fans the flames of conflict in Ukraine.

According to AAA Alabama, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.47 on Thursday, up from $3.39 on Wednesday. That’s 18 cents more than it was just a week ago – placing the state of Alabama among the top ten states experiencing the highest increases over the last seven days.

The national average for gas also spiked, up to $3.72; that’s a jump of seven cents in a single day.

You can use GasBuddy.com to find the lowest prices for example the two rock bottom prices to be found are both at Decatur area businesses – Petro South which is located on Moulton Street West is selling gas for $2.65 a gallon, with the next closest price at Tucker’s on North Bethel Road, where gas is just $2.99 – and from there Sam’s Club in Tuscaloosa is offering gas for $3.15 a gallon

According to AAA, the highest national average fuel price ever recorded was $4.11 a gallon back on July 17th of 2008, while the highest average for Alabama was $4.05 in September of that same year.

And there doesn’t look to be any relief in anywhere in sight. According to AAA, Russia exports around 12% of the global petroleum supply. As more sanctions are imposed on Russia the price will probably rise, as global oil supplies grow tighter.
