High Profile Floyd County Jail Inmate Sentenced to Life without Parole for Murder of Another Inmate

A man accused of brutally killing another inmate in the Floyd County Jail entered an open plea of guilty but mentally ill earlier this week and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.  Denver Fenton Allen stands charged with murdering Stephen Rudolph Nalley in August of 2015.  Just last month a jury found that Allen was competent to stand trial.

Monday, Judge Billy Sparks denied Allen’s immunity motion for self-defense, which led to Allen threatening to murder people in the courtroom, including Assistant District Attorney Luke Martin.  Allen made national news for another courtroom outburst in June of 2016, in which he threatened Judge Bryant Durham’s family and made several lewd comments of a sexual nature.

Allen made news again after making copies of the graphic crime scene photos and mailing them to members of the public.

District Attorney Leigh Patterson said she was pleased with the sentence saying that Allen was the kind of guy who should never get out, referring to him as “dangerous,” and “a loose cannon.”
