Gadsden- A Gadsden police officer was hit while responding to a motor cycle accident on Saturday afternoon. A single vehicle motor cycle accident occurred on the ramp from Interstate 759 to US Hwy 411. The driver of the bike was sent to UAB Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The officer was involved in a collision on Rainbow Drive/US Hwy 411 in route to assist with that accident. According the the Gadsden Police Department, the officer and other party in the second accident were ok.
Gadsden Police released the following statement:
“Earlier today, Gadsden Police responded to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on the I-759 off-ramp to Rainbow Drive. The rider sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to UAB Hospital for further treatment.While on the way to that scene, a Gadsden Police officer was involved in a separate crash when another vehicle struck his patrol car on Rainbow Drive. Medics responded out of an abundance of caution, and we’re thankful to report that everyone involved is okay.Both scenes have since been cleared, and traffic is flowing normally.As always, we’re grateful for the quick response and professionalism of Gadsden Fire and our local EMS personnel, who consistently support our efforts to keep the city safe.”
The accident follows an accident that occurred the prior evening involving an Etowah County Sheriff’s Deputy. Little information on that accident is available at this point. A representative from the Sheriff’s Department confirmed a deputy had been involved in a wreck near the old H M Freeman building on US 431, and that more information could be made available in the near future.
