MONTGOMERY – Multiple area football players’ performances were recognized in the latest AHSAA Spotlight for Week 2. Among them was Cherokee County High School senior quarterback Carson Tittle.
Tittle was 6 of 8 passing for 144 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes in the Warriors 47-6 rout at Class 4A Region 6 rival Oneonta. What made his performance so special was he tore his ACL in the previous week’s game at Arab, but he wanted to play in one last football game with his teammates before he had surgery.
“He decided after (last) Wednesday that he was good enough to play tonight,” Warrior coach Jacob Kelley said. “He started one more time for us tonight with a torn ACL. He managed the game. It was just good to go to war one more time with him. When he has surgery, and if we can do our part and continue to get better and make a run through the playoffs, maybe he’ll be well enough to get back.”
Tittle wasn’t the only hero for the Warriors. Ben Frampton had five catches for 128 yards, including a pair of touchdowns (9 and 39 yards). Tae Diamond led the Warrior ground game with 124 yards on 19 carries with two touchdowns (14 and 11 yards).
In other area action, Cedar Bluff held on to defeat Gaston 28-22 for its first win of the season. Quarterback Bryson Teague accounted for 176 total yards with 75 yards rushing and 101 yards passing. However, his biggest run came on a fourth-and-4 play late in the game for a first down, allowing the Tigers to run out the clock in the win. He finished with two rushing scores.
Kadien Tracy also had a big night for the Tigers. He had six tackles on defense with a sack, three quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles in a 28-22 victory over Gaston. He also ran for 149 yards on 25 carries with touchdowns of 1 and 55 yards.
Piedmont quarterback Cole Wilson completed 9 of 10 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown in a 46-20 win over Ohatchee. He fired a touchdown strike to Ishmael Bethel near the end of the first half in the win.
Rollie Pinto raced 69 yards on the first play of the second half for a touchdown and then caught the 2-point conversion pass. He added a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown just three minutes later to help seal the Bulldog win.
Spring Garden’s John Welsh caught five passes for 117 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown for the Panthers’ first score. He later added a 15-yard touchdown in a 47-21 victory at Ragland.
Connor Bates returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown on defense and ran for two touchdowns on offense with 100 yards on 15 carries in the Panther win.
Gaylesville’s Timmy Dawson accounted for 19 tackles in a 28-14 setback to Valley Head. Alex Baty added 12 tackles and rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in the loss.
Collinsville kicker Jan Segura booted a 44-yard field goal in a 42-10 loss to Fyffe.
