Sue Shattuck Ellis
3/19/33 – 7/24/23

Sue Shattuck Ellis, age 90 of Centre, Alabama passed away on Monday,
July 24, 2023 at her home in the Ellisville Community.  Sue was born
on March 19, 1933 and grew up in Lafayette, Georgia.  Visitation will
be held at Perry Funeral Home in Centre, Alabama on Monday, July 31,
2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service
beginning at 5:00 p.m. (CST).  The service will be conducted by Bro.
Eddie Nation and Bro. Melvyn Salter.  The Eulogy will be given by Wae
Ellis, grandson.  A private burial will be at Cherokee Memory Gardens.

Sue attended the University of Georgia.  She was married to Watt Andy
(Dub) Ellis, Jr. for 62 years.  Sue was a helpmate for Dub’s business,
Ellis Brothers Seed, Inc.  She hosted business associates and farmers
in their home.  Sue traveled with Dub throughout the United States and
abroad promoting the cotton, soybean, and ag industry.

Sue was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Centre First Baptist
Church, Lena Snead Sunday School class, and was a former Cherokee
County Public Library board member.  Her hobbies included art,
gardening, flowers, reading, and Bridge.  She shared her talented
artwork, beautiful flowers, and fresh vegetables with family and
friends.  She hosted many families and friends in her home with her
cooking and southern hospitality.  Sue delighted in serving and
entertaining others.  Sue was a true definition of a “Graceful Steel
Magnolia.”  Ma Ma Sue was how she was affectionally known by her large
family and was proud of each one.  Spending time with loved ones and
her friends were a high priority.  She made holidays special and
enjoyed decorating her country home.  Sue served and volunteered in
the church and community by visiting and taking food to the homebound
and those in need.  She was on the original planning committee that
began the building project for the Recreational Outreach Center (ROC)
for First Baptist Church Centre.  She grew, arranged, and displayed
her fresh flowers on the communion table at church for over 40 years.

Survivors include children Andy (Freida) Ellis, Susan (Bob) Hood, and
Lynn (Scott) Curry.  Grandchildren include Andrea (Clint) Aultman. Wae
(Mary) Ellis, Elizabeth (Will) Babb, Sarah (Pete) Lemons, Lynden
(David) Seals, and Libby Curry.  Great Grandchildren are Colin Givens,
Ellisan Givens, Jackson Aultman, Ellie Aultman, Asher Ellis, Maggie
Ellis, Phoebe Babb, Luke Babb, Lexi Lemons, A.J. Lemons, Eli Lemons,
Campbell Seals, and Coley Seals.

Preceded in death by Horace D. Shattuck, father; Marquerite Shields
Shattuck, mother; W. A. (Dub) Ellis, Jr., husband; Bert Shattuck
Ellis, son; Montyne Shattuck Stolz, sister; and Ian Andy Ellis, great
grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Wae Ellis, Will Stolz, Will Babb, Pete Lemons,
Clint Aultman, David Seals, Colin Givens, Jackson Aultman, Luke Babb,
Ellis Nephews.

Sue’s family truly appreciates the love and care given to Ma Ma Sue
from her long-time caregiver Edward Smith.  Other special caregivers
were Bre Moten, Penny Burns, Betty Adams, Sabrina Cole, Amanda
Johnson, April Ackah, Katelyn Day, Jeanette Terry, Vicki Lawson, Susan
Hodges, Rev. Ken Roberts, and the staff at Home Instead Caretakers and
Pro Health.
