Two of Cherokee County’s finest servants are calling it quits after several years of dedicated service to the Cherokee County Detention Center and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
A joint reception was held on Thursday afternoon for longtime Assistant Chief of Corrections Lewis Conway and Corrections Officer Tommy Hale. Hale is retiring with 12 years of service and Conway with 20 years of service.
Conway first came to work for the Cherokee County Detention Center in 1997 and recalled the first convicted murder being brought to the jail.
Chief of Corrections Harley Lamey said that both men are good men and will be greatly missed in the jail; Lamey said that having officers like these is what makes his job a whole lot easier.
Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver presented both Conway and Hale with certificates of retirement.
