One Dead After Single-Engine Aircraft Crash in DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY-One person is dead after a single-engine aircraft crashed Tuesday near the Whiton community. The DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency confirmed the fatality.

EMA Director Michael Posey said the aircraft crashed behind the Whitton water tank. However, officials have not released the victim’s identity or information about anyone else who may have been aboard.

Earlier, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and first responders were working near the 4700 block of County Road 3. The agency identified the area as the Whiton community.

Meanwhile, officials continue asking the public to avoid the area while emergency crews remain on the scene. At this time, authorities have not said what caused the crash.

The Emergency Management Agency says it will release additional information as it becomes available.
