Piedmont City Council Approves Sunday Alcohol Sales

Piedmont residents will now be able to legally purchase alcohol on Sundays after city officials, declined to place any restrictions on the state law passed earlier this year.

At the start of summer, the Alabama Legislature passed a law permitting the Sunday sale of alcohol in Piedmont. Following a three-month waiting period, the council was given the option of placing restrictions on those sales.

Brenda Spears made a motion to forbid Sunday alcohol sales until after local church services had ended, but after failing to receive a second, the motion died on the vine. This means that the Sunday sale of alcohol will go into effect immediately.

Locally, Piedmont joins the Town of Cedar Bluff, which recently allowed Sunday alcohol sales.

In other business, the council approved a Lounge Liquor Class II alcohol license to Northern Package Store.

Bills for payment were approved in the amount of $655,964.25, with Council Member Spears voting “no,” and Council Member Kenny Kelly abstaining.

The next regular Piedmont City Council Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4th, at 6 pm.
