A 22-year old man has been arrested following an incident Wednesday evening in Chattooga County.
According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, authorities were initially dispatched to the home on Katie Lane believing there might be a hostage situation.
The sheriff also called in a special operations unit from Walker County to assist and a perimeter was maintained around the scene during the situation. Some nearby residents were told to stay inside their homes or not to come home until the issue was resolved.
The sheriff said that as it turned out there was no home invasion, burglary or hostage situation.
Schrader said that at the time and due to the nature of the calls that were being made to Chattooga 911, law enforcement did not know if a person’s life was in danger.
In fact when deputies initially came to the house they were unable to get anyone to the door. A second call to 911 brought deputies out again.
This time they were told by a person in the home that there were firearms involved and had reason to believe that someone’s life might be threatened.
The house where the incident took place belongs to former a former Chattooga County law enforcement officer, Phil Stowe, who was away from the home at the time of the incident.
Schrader said that Douglas Craig Caron jumped from a second story window at the home and was quickly apprehended by law enforcement and now faces charges of false report of a crime in connection with the incident.
