The Cherokee County Commission has approved a revised contract with Southern Health Partners for medical services for inmates at the jail.

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver explained the changes.

When the current contract was negotiated the average inmate population was less than 100.

Now it is consistently over the century mark, and that has been costing the county additional money in per diems.

In other action, the commission approved an agreement with the State Homeland Security Grant Program for a grant in the amount of 27-thousand 305 dollars to upgrades at 911.

The commission Monday also approved two requests for special funds to the Cherokee County Highway Department.

The first for just over 20-thousand dollars (5-thousand from each commissioner) for the paving of the parking lot at the Ellisville Fire Station.

The second for just over 5-thousand dollars for the parking lot at Gaylesville School, which will come from Commissioner Carlton Teague’s Tobacco Tax money.

Commission Chairman Kirk Day, who also announced that applications are being accepted until September the 18th for an appointment on the Decentralized Wastewater Authority.

The post, currently held by Terry Daughtery, is for a six year term.

Commissioners also approved the transfer of Andreka Harbour from Corrections Officer to Probate Officer Clerk at the current rate of pay and the transfer of Thomas Owens from Court Security to License Inspector at the current rate of pay. That will be a part-time position.
