MABLETON– One person died and four others suffered injuries in Monday’s Goliath incident at Six Flags Over Georgia, according to WSB-TV.
The station reported that officials confirmed the death and four injuries. However, the reports reviewed did not detail the injuries or the conditions of those hurt.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Cobb County Police responded to an emergency call at approximately 3:58 p.m. Eastern. The department’s Major Crimes Unit is also investigating the roller coaster incident.
Meanwhile, WAFF reporting carried by WTVM said the incident prompted an evacuation of the park. Crews also helped stranded Goliath riders leave the stopped coaster using a stairway.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” a Six Flags spokesperson said in a statement reported by FOX 5.
The company also offered condolences to the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. It said employees and local authorities responded immediately and that it is cooperating with investigators.
Six Flags said it is providing support to affected guests and employees. However, the company declined to share additional details, citing the family’s privacy.
A witness interviewed by FOX 5 described seeing a rider fall from Goliath. The Associated Press reported that officials still had not confirmed how the person died or what caused the other injuries.
This is a developing story.
