ROME– A Floyd County Top 10 Most Wanted fugitive sought in connection with a death investigation is now in custody following a traffic stop in Bartow County.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office announced that deputies had taken custody of 32-year-old Drake Ladon Keef of Aragon. Keef was later booked into the Floyd County Jail.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Keef had outstanding warrants for hit-and-run, aggravated battery and driving with a suspended license.

Keef was reportedly taken into custody Tuesday evening after a Bartow County sheriff’s deputy spotted him riding in a vehicle near Taylorsville.

The deputy stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Ridge Cross Road and Smith Road and confirmed Keef’s identity. A Floyd County deputy then responded and took Keef into custody without incident, WBHF Radio reported.

Previously, WEIS Radio reported that Floyd County police were searching for Keef as investigators examined the death of 35-year-old Stevie Marie Thompson of Rome.

The Floyd County Police Department identified Keef as a suspect and said the investigation involved an incident that occurred between midnight and 1 a.m. Aug. 22 near Chulio Road and Cole Road.

However, authorities have not released complete details about the circumstances surrounding Thompson’s death because the investigation remains active.

The Sheriff’s Office thanked the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the arrest. Additionally, officials thanked community members who provided information and helped authorities locate Keef.

The charges against Keef are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
