ALBERTVILLE– As grilling season gets underway, Albertville Fire & Rescue is reminding residents to take a few simple safety precautions before firing up the grill this summer.

According to the department, grilling outdoors with family and friends is a favorite summer tradition, but grill fires continue to cause thousands of home fires and injuries each year.

Fire officials encourage residents to always use grills outdoors and to keep them at least 10 feet away from homes, decks, railings, and any other combustible materials. Maintaining a safe distance helps reduce the risk of fire spreading to nearby structures.

Albertville Fire & Rescue also recommends creating a three-foot safety zone around the grill to keep children and pets safely away from hot cooking surfaces.

Officials stress that grills should never be left unattended while in use. In addition, grease buildup should be cleaned regularly to help prevent flare-ups and grease fires.

For those using propane grills, the department advises checking propane hoses for leaks before the start of each grilling season and periodically throughout the summer.

Albertville Fire & Rescue says taking a few simple precautions can help ensure cookouts remain safe and enjoyable for everyone.

The department encourages residents to practice safe grilling habits throughout the summer and wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable grilling season.
