Cherokee County Board of Education Approves Personnel Actions During Special Called Meeting

CENTRE— The Cherokee County Board of Education met in a special called meeting Thursday morning, June 18, at the Central Office Board Room in Centre, where board members approved a series of personnel actions affecting several schools across the district.

Following the call to order, welcome, public comments, roll call, confirmation of proper meeting notification procedures, adoption of the agenda, and approval of the June 9 meeting minutes, the board considered personnel recommendations.

Among the actions approved was the resignation of Jeff Davis, a county-wide special education paraprofessional with bus aide responsibilities, effective immediately.

The board approved several certified placements for the upcoming school year. Amanda Pope was named assistant principal at Spring Garden School, effective August 1, 2026. The board also approved Anthony Steven Goodson as history/computer science teacher at Spring Garden School for the 2026-2027 school year, pending certification.

A certified transfer by agreement was also approved, moving Emory Blanchard from an elementary teaching position at Spring Garden School to an elementary teaching position at Centre Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year.

The board approved two classified placements at Centre Elementary School for the upcoming school year. Macy Kelley was hired as an instructional paraprofessional, while Brittany Pierce was approved as a seven-hour Child Nutrition Program worker, pending background clearance.

Two contract changes by agreement were approved at Sand Rock School. Brittney Swain and Rebecca Clanton will both transition from eight-hour Child Nutrition Program worker positions to seven-hour positions beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

Board members also approved the creation of three new positions, including a seven-hour Child Nutrition Worker at Sand Rock School, a seven-hour Special Education Paraprofessional at Sand Rock School, and an eight-hour Special Education Paraprofessional with bus aide responsibilities at Spring Garden School.

Before adjourning, officials announced that the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 4 p.m. at the Central Office in Centre.
