Missing Hiker Safely Rescued Sunday Evening at McClellan Horse Trails

ANNISTON — A missing hiker was safely located and rescued Sunday evening after becoming disoriented on the horse trails at McClellan, according to the Anniston Police Department.

Police say officers were dispatched earlier in the evening following a report of a missing individual who had lost his way after nightfall. With darkness setting in and visibility limited, officials noted that the situation posed an increased risk due to the challenging terrain.

In response, Sgt. White deployed a thermal drone to assist in the search. The technology allowed officers to quickly locate the hiker despite the difficult conditions. Once the individual was found, the drone’s spotlight feature was used to guide him safely back to awaiting officers.

Authorities credited the department’s drone program as a key factor in the successful outcome, noting that the use of advanced technology helped reduce risk and improve response time during the incident.

The Anniston Police Department also expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the Anniston Fire Department and Anniston EMS, both of which responded to aid in the search and recovery efforts.
