Mrs. Glenda Faye Oliver, age 80, of Centre, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. In 1 Corinthians 13:4–7, Paul writes, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Glenda Oliver lived her life as a pillar of what it means to love sacrificially and unconditionally, in sickness and in health. She lived this love not only as a caretaker but also as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Born into a family of farmers, Glenda was raised in the small town of Sand Rock, Alabama. She met her best friend in school and loved to tell the story of how she wore her wedding dress beneath her graduation robe, a symbol of her unconditional love for her high school sweetheart, Troy Oliver. Together, they raised two children before eventually moving to their home on Weiss Lake. Throughout their 62 year marriage, they loved to go camping, bowling, fishing and spend time with their family. She loved to bake biscuits and cakes, create beautiful quilts, solve jigsaw puzzles and use her green thumb to grow flowers and vegetables. No matter the hobby, she always found ways to share her many talents with others, pouring love into everything she made and grew. When she wasn’t tending to her garden or covered in flour, Glenda valued time spent with her family and friends, especially when gathered around a cup of coffee.
As we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman, may we find peace and rejoice in knowing she is with the Heavenly Father. Though she is gone, we will carry her memory with us; in the bright spring flowers, the smell of freshly brewed coffee, and the gentle sound of wind chimes.
Glenda’s legacy lives on in the strength of her children, Steve (Amy) Oliver and Brandi (Chad) Green; the creativity of her grandchildren, Taylor (Wesley) Heath, Abby Oliver, Makenzie Green, and Athens Green; and the laughter of her great-grandchildren, Canyon, Olivia, and Riker. And, of course, her love lives on in the cuddles of her fur babies, Charlie and Bella.
She is survived by her husband, Troy Oliver, brother, Wendall (Johnna) Lawson, Sister-in-law, Shirley Lawson and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Edna Faye Lawson of Sand Rock, and her brother, Rev. Randall Lawson. The family would like to personally thank the office and care teams of April Connell, Hayman Hospice Care Floyd, and Adoration Home Health. Additionally, a huge thank you to Glenda’s special friends Judy Waluskis, Melanie (Charles) Garrett and Edna Jolly for their unwavering love and support.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026 in the Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Hardin and Rev. Eddie Nation officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10am until 11am at the funeral home. Pallbearers will include: Chad Green, Athens Green, Wesley Heath, Scott Norris, David Chambers, Joe Tom Stimpson, and Canyon Biggs.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Centre’s Building Fund or the Sand Rock Volunteer Fire Department.
