Woman Struck and Killed by Train in Rome

ROME, Ga. — An adult woman was struck and killed by a train Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in Rome.
The incident occurred on Norfolk Southern property beneath the Turner McCall Bridge, near the south side of the tracks in the area of East 2nd Avenue Southwest, near Kroger.
Reports state that the train engineer observed the woman walking on the tracks and sounded the horn before applying the train’s emergency brakes. Despite those efforts, the train was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.
Authorities confirmed the incident did not occur at a designated railroad crossing.
The woman’s body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for further examination. Her identity has not been released pending notification of her next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation.
