GADSDEN — A fatal house fire occurred early Saturday morning in the Green Pastures Community of East Gadsden.

The fire was reported in the 1000 block of Wainwright Avenue. It was observed at 7:47 am by firefighters from Station #3 which is nearby. Units from the Gadsden Fire Department and the Gadsden Police Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered one individual deceased inside the residence. Officials believe the victim was the only person in the home at the time of the blaze.

Investigators were called to the scene, including members of the arson task force, who are leading the investigation. At this time, the cause of the fire remains unknown. The identity of the deceased has not been publicly released.

The investigation is ongoing.
