Suspect Arrested in Jacksonville Walmart Stabbing

JACKSONVILLE, Ala– Jacksonville police say they’ve arrested a suspect in a stabbing outside the Jacksonville Walmart.

Chief Marcus Wood says 29-year-old Marquavious Travon Williams of Anniston was taken into custody Friday at a home on East 15th Street in Anniston. Officers say Williams tried to barricade himself inside before surrendering about two hours later.

Investigators say Williams had several outstanding warrants in Calhoun and Etowah counties, and Jacksonville police have now added more — including obstruction of justice, second-degree assault, second-degree retail theft, and resisting arrest. All but the resisting arrest charge are felonies.

Williams is accused of stabbing a Salvation Army worker who followed a masked man carrying a computer monitor into the parking lot last Thursday. Police say a scuffle broke out before the suspect ran off. The worker was treated at a local hospital and later released.

Williams is being held in Etowah County and will face the Jacksonville charges after those cases are handled.

Chief Wood thanked investigators for their work and reminded the public that retail theft often rises during the holidays — and that habitual shoplifters can face felony charges in Alabama.
