At the August 10th town council meeting Cedar Bluff Police Chief Jeremy Stepps reported on police and fire department activity for the month of July. The police department issued 123 warnings and 85 tickets, conducted 11 misdemeanor and 8 felony arrests, and reported 2 drug cases and 8 ICE arrests. Twenty-one warrants were served, 6 suspects interviewed, and the department had 3 open investigations.
Mayor Warren noted that Stepps and Sergeant Jamie Chatman recently attended a police conference. Chief Stepps reported that he and Chatman did a lot of networking at the conference and learned how artificial intelligence affects police departments.
Police Chief Stepps also reported the fire department numbers. The data revealed 29 incident types, fourteen of which were medical. Some of those included the likes of chest pain, breathing problems, and falls. The department also reported 4 fire, 2 hazardous situation, and 2 public service calls. Seven incidents were labeled non-emergencies.
Building Inspector Mark Perry’s shared that the town saw 12 building permit, 7 business license, and 70 camper permit requests. Perry also updated the council on the progress in clearing the right-of-ways for the likes of garbage trucks and school buses. Crews had recently finished clearing near the school and behind the Methodist church with Hidden Point Drive next on the list.
