Cedar Bluff Police Sergeant Appointed to FBI Safe Streets Task Force

CEDAR BLUFF — The Cedar Bluff Police Department has announced the appointment of Sgt. Jamie Chatman to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force, a move local officials say will strengthen law enforcement partnerships and enhance public safety efforts throughout the region.

According to the department, Chatman recently took the oath of office and officially began his assignment with the FBI-led task force, which brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement officers to investigate and combat violent crime, gang activity, drug trafficking, firearms offenses, and other organized criminal enterprises.

The Safe Streets Task Force serves as a key component of the FBI’s national violent crime reduction strategy, focusing on intelligence sharing, coordinated investigations, and multi-agency collaboration to identify, target, and dismantle criminal organizations that pose threats to communities.

Cedar Bluff Police Chief Jeremy Stepps praised Chatman’s selection, describing it as both a personal achievement for the veteran officer and a significant opportunity for the department and the community it serves.

“This is a tremendous honor for Sgt. Chatman and a proud moment for the Cedar Bluff Police Department,” Stepps said. “Jamie has consistently demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and a commitment to protecting our community. His assignment to the FBI Safe Streets Task Force reflects his exceptional abilities as an investigator and leader.”

Stepps said the partnership will provide Cedar Bluff officers with increased access to federal resources, intelligence, and collaborative opportunities that can assist in addressing criminal activity that extends beyond local jurisdictions.

“Through this partnership, our department will gain valuable resources, intelligence, and collaboration opportunities that will directly benefit the citizens of Cedar Bluff and Cherokee County,” Stepps added.

As a member of the task force, Chatman will work alongside FBI Special Agents and law enforcement personnel from multiple agencies and jurisdictions. His responsibilities will include participating in investigations targeting violent offenders, organized criminal groups, firearms violations, drug trafficking networks, and other crimes that impact communities across the region.

The Safe Streets Task Force model has long been recognized as one of the FBI’s most effective approaches to addressing violent crime. By combining the expertise and resources of local, state, and federal agencies, task force members are able to share information more efficiently, coordinate enforcement operations, and pursue complex investigations that often cross jurisdictional boundaries.

Law enforcement leaders have increasingly relied on such partnerships in recent years as criminal organizations become more sophisticated and mobile, requiring greater cooperation among agencies to effectively investigate and prosecute offenders.

Department officials said Chatman’s appointment reflects Cedar Bluff’s ongoing commitment to building strong relationships with law enforcement partners at every level and ensuring that officers have access to the tools and resources needed to protect the community.

The department noted that participation in the task force will not only enhance regional crime-fighting efforts but will also bring valuable experience and knowledge back to the Cedar Bluff Police Department, benefiting local investigations and public safety initiatives.

Officials expressed confidence that Chatman’s experience, leadership, and investigative skills will make him a valuable asset to the task force while continuing to represent the department and the Town of Cedar Bluff with distinction.

The Cedar Bluff Police Department congratulated Sgt. Chatman on the appointment and said it looks forward to the positive impact his work with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force will have on Cedar Bluff, Cherokee County, and surrounding communities.

“This assignment represents an important step forward not only for Sgt. Chatman but for the department as a whole,” the department said. “We are proud of his accomplishment and excited about the opportunities this partnership will create in our continued efforts to keep our communities safe.”
