GADSDEN — The Gadsden Fire Department’s C Shift responded to a string of emergency calls during a busy Memorial Day evening on Monday, handling multiple incidents across the city within a span of approximately 90 minutes.
The evening’s busiest stretch began at approximately 7:40 p.m. when firefighters were dispatched to a fully involved structure fire on 15th Street. According to reports, the residence appeared to be a total loss by the time crews arrived. No information regarding injuries was immediately available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Just minutes after the structure fire dispatch, firefighters were sent to what was initially reported as another fire-related call. Upon arrival near Walnut and Webster streets, crews discovered a tree had fallen onto a home, trapping a woman inside. Emergency responders were able to safely free the resident, and no injuries were reported.
The calls continued throughout the evening as the department responded to a grass fire at approximately 7:55 p.m. Shortly afterward, firefighters assisted with a motor vehicle accident at 7:59 p.m.
At approximately 8:34 p.m., crews answered a medical emergency call before responding to a second minor accident on Interstate 759 at around 9:01 p.m.
The flurry of activity kept Gadsden Fire Department C Shift crews moving throughout the evening as they worked to protect lives and property during a demanding Memorial Day response period.
