CENTRE — The McCord’s Crossroads Homemakers Club hosted its 12th Annual May Community Celebration honoring veterans and military service members on Saturday, May 16, at the Hopewell Community Center in Centre.

The celebration began with a patriotic program at 10 a.m. Central Time and featured a presentation by “Peter the Patriot,” who highlighted themes of patriotism and appreciation for military service throughout the program.

During the ceremony, the Cherokee County Volunteer Fire Department conducted a flag-folding demonstration, explaining the meaning behind each fold of the American flag and its significance in honoring those who have served the nation.
Following the program, attendees gathered for a pork loin lunch, with veterans receiving meals free of charge as a gesture of appreciation for their military service. Other attendees were invited to contribute a suggested donation of $12 per plate.

The annual gathering is designed to recognize and honor the sacrifices of military members and veterans while bringing the community together in a shared expression of gratitude.
