WALNUT GROVE – Cedar Bluff’s Jamison Miller ran for 170 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown. He also posted 4 ½ tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss and a pass breakup to help Cole Murphy earn his first win as Tiger head coach in a 20-15 decision over the West End Patriots on Friday.
“I’m excited for our kids. They’ve worked their tails off up until this point,” Murphy said. “We’ve been intense. We’ve coached them really hard. They’ve taken things the right way and changed what we needed to change to get to where we want to be. I couldn’t be more proud of them. They did a great job tonight.”
Zach Jones added a 60-yard touchdown run for the Tigers (1-0). He also had an interception, two tackles and a pass breakup on defense. Jeremiah Miller managed 8 ½ tackles and recovered a fumble for a touchdown.
Dallas Storey delivered five tackles, including two for loss, with three pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Taylen Dixon Dixon forced a fumble and had three pass breakups. Brantley Wheeler made two tackles for loss and had a sack.
Zahlen Kyle and Bryant Gravely both made seven stops. Kyle also had half a sack and Gravely a tackle for loss.
Sam Payne finished with 5 ½ tackles with 2 ½ for loss with half a sack.
“We flew around on defense,” Murphy said. “I feel like there at the end we were more physical and that’s what gave us the win. That’s nothing against West End. They got after it the whole game too, but we just stepped it up another notch and were able to get the win.”
Cedar Bluff hits the road again next Friday night at Gaston.
