CENTRE — Estes Field was filled with patriotic spirit, music, and community pride Friday evening as the City of Centre hosted its “America 250” celebration, bringing residents and visitors together for an evening honoring the nation’s heritage and local traditions.

Held Friday, May 15, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., the family-friendly event featured live entertainment, patriotic tributes, food vendors, children’s activities, and special recognition of local veterans.
The evening began with live music performances from Ben Perry and Ronny Kisor, who entertained the crowd ahead of the patriotic ceremony and following.

As the patriotic program began, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office presented the colors, helping open the ceremony with a tribute to the nation and those who have served.

Several local veterans then took part by sharing personal perspectives and stories from their military service, offering attendees a firsthand look at sacrifice, duty, and patriotism. Veterans were also recognized as part of the evening’s observance.
The community choir performed patriotic musical selections throughout the program, adding to the evening’s patriotic atmosphere as residents gathered to celebrate the nation and local community.

Organizers also included a student-led reading of the Declaration of Independence, highlighting the significance of the nation’s founding principles as part of the broader “America 250” celebration recognizing the approaching 250th anniversary of the United States.

Families attending the event enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the evening. Vendors were on hand offering food, while inflatable games provided entertainment for children. Free popcorn and cotton candy were also available to attendees.
