CENTRE — Sgt. Mike Farrell of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has been recognized as the South Eastern Field Training Officers Association (SEFTOA) Field Training Officer of the Year during the organization’s conference held this week in Gulf Shores.

Farrell attended the conference alongside Cherokee County Chief Deputy Josh Summerford as he received the award, which recognizes excellence in law enforcement training, leadership, and mentorship.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the honor reflects Farrell’s dedication to developing and guiding officers through field training and professional instruction.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver praised Farrell for his commitment to mentoring younger officers and setting a positive example within the department.

“Sgt. Farrell has always led by example and takes great pride in helping develop young officers,” Shaver stated. “He cares about the people he trains and the job they do, and this recognition is well deserved.”

Chief Deputy Josh Summerford also commended Farrell’s influence within the agency and the law enforcement profession.

“Mike is the kind of supervisor and trainer who invests in others and wants to see them succeed,” Summerford said. “He represents our office well, and we’re proud to see him recognized for the impact he continues to make in law enforcement training.”

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said Farrell’s recognition highlights both his service within the department and his continued contributions to law enforcement training across the region.
