First Arrest Made in Edwards Grocery Burglary and High-Speed Chase Investigation, Jacksonville Police Say

JACKSONVILLE — An arrest has been made in connection with a burglary at Edwards Grocery on Alabama 204 and a subsequent high-speed pursuit, according to Jacksonville Police Chief Marcus Wood.
Authorities said Jacksonville Police, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested 24-year-old Marcus Dewayne Evans of Bessemer on Monday, April 20. Evans is charged with third-degree burglary and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.
The arrest marks the first in what investigators believe to be a three-suspect case stemming from an early morning burglary and vehicle pursuit that occurred in late March at the store.
Officials said Evans is the first of three individuals expected to be charged in connection with the incident. Investigators continue to review evidence as the investigation remains active.
Jacksonville Police credited multiple agencies for their assistance in the case, including the U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI, the East Metro Area Crime Center, and the Center for Applied Forensics at Jacksonville State University.
