A nearby domestic dispute has left one woman dead and a man behind bars.  The shooting happened on Saturday on Hughes Street according to Piedmont Police Chief Nathan Johnson.  The Chief identified the victim as 36-year-old Ashley Marie Leonard.  Damien Michael Bailey, age 42, is charged with Murder, and is being held without bond in the Calhoun County Jail.

Chief Johnson said that Leonard was fatally shot as she and Bailey were arguing.   No additional details have been released.  Leonard was a CNA at Cherokee County Health & Rehabilitation Center.

The facility has posted on Facebook, “It is with deep sadness to learn of her unexpected passing,” and the note continued, “Ashley was a dedicated CNA who loved caring for others.  Words could never express how much our residents and staff will miss her; we’ll remember the impact that she had serving others these past few years.”

We’ll have additional information as the story develops, and the facility is planning for song and prayer in the lobby starting at 9:00am Tuesday.
