FORT PAYNE – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors finished runner-up to host Fort Payne in the Fort Payne Volleyball Invitational on Saturday.
In pool play, the Lady Warriors defeated Cedar Bluff (22-25, 25-11, 15-8), Southside (25-15, 25-21) and Glenwood (25-16, 25-20). Cherokee County (22-6) then beat Faith Christian in the quarterfinals (25-11, 25-15) to advance to the tournament semifinals, where they defeated Springville (25-19, 25-16).
In the tournament final, the Lady Warriors fell to Fort Payne (20-25, 17-25).
For the day, Macy Lea accumulated 109 assists, 16 kills, four blocks, 31 digs and two aces. Lea now has over 2,700 career assists and now holds the Lady Warriors’ school record.
Ava Haygood collected 43 kills, 32 digs, two blocks, eight aces and 11 assists. Ellisan Givens gained 57 digs, seven aces, a kill and 10 assists. Nevaeh Gaidurgis posted 39 kills, 34 digs, 12 blocks, six aces and four assists.
Jesslyn Hincy had 26 digs, three aces and an assist. Jolie Alexander added 13 kills, 12 digs, seven blocks, five aces and three assists. Libby Curry came away with seven kills, three digs and a pair of aces. Raegan Garmany delivered 14 kills, three blocks, two digs and two assists. Lilly Shaw managed 11 kills, two blocks and seven digs, and Shamiya McElrath finished with a pair of kills and a pair of digs.
